Slimming Solutions – The Latest

Nutritionalists work on a person’s Body Mass Index when analysing weight questions. Our weight is thought to be right for our height if our reading is under twenty five and over eighteen. If it goes over 25, we have a weight problem. Above 30, and we join the category of obesity, moving into morbid obesity above 40.

To work out your own index – Use a metric rule to measure your height. Then record your weight in kilograms. Your height should be multiplied by itself, then divide that figure by your weight.

For example if your height is 1.6 metres and your weight is 78 kilos, your BMI is 30.47 (1.6 x 1.6 = 2.56 then 78 / 2.56 = 30.47). As a BMI of more than thirty has been classified as obese, action would definitely be required in the above example.

Generally, a reduction in the amount of high fat food will get the weight-loss ball rolling. Smaller, higher fibre lower fat meals will help the body to metabolise the fat stores that have previously built up.

Don’t be tempted by miracle diets that promise massive weight loss in no time at all. This rules out anything that suggests you consume less than twelve hundred calories in 24 hours. Such ‘instant remedies’ may produce some results, but it’s likely the weight will flood back on.

Healthy dieting that will make you fitter for life can take months. Losing up to two pounds a week can be achieved if you simply cut out five hundred calories or so a day. Clearly this isn’t going to make an impact this month, but you will be healthier by this time next year.

Foods which contain the most calories tend to have a high fat content. It makes sense therefore to drastically reduce that type of food. To avoid feeling desperately hungry eat more whole grains, and to balance your diet include plenty of fruit and veg. Making these changes will help to prevent any re-entry into the obesity category.

It may seem like a good idea to skip a meal, but it isn’t. Over the day as a whole, you’re likely to consume more in snacks to compensate for your hunger. On the contrary, you should eat several small meals a day to prevent getting too hungry. On-going hunger essentially slows the weight loss process down. Regular, healthy eating allows your body to metabolise more efficiently, which makes weight loss much easier.
