How To Find Great Inspiration For Drawing Landscapes!…

by Anna Meenaghan

In this age where valuable free time is so precious, where do we find relaxation, peace, or solitude from the busy life of today with all it’s trials and tribulations. People use this time in different ways, but I am sure that many opt for some sort of peace and tranquility.

One way people find their karma is to go into the rural countryside. Here there is so much to be appreciated, for starters, fields, flowers, hills, animals, birds etc. There is beauty surrounding and as a contemporary artist for me this is bliss.

Whenever you do this it is always interesting and the colors are great. Winter with the snow falling, frosts patterning our lawns and windows and the trees minus all their leaves.

The Autumn is fantastic. This surely is one of the best seasons for color. Swirling leaves in mixed colors blowing in all directions, golden yellows, browns and varying shades of reds. They seem to pelt along together with the falling twigs from the trees, conkers and ebbing leaves.

I have spent some time in County Kerry, where the scenes there are naturally rugged which is fascinating to the eye of a painter. If you head on towards Dingle the natural flow of the waterfalls at Muckross Pass takes your breath away. The early morning mists too, are something to behold.

Different things capture people’s emotions, personally I am quite happy to stroll along a deserted beach at any time of the year. Observe the birds, watch the sun dappling on the water, or the flow of the tide as it comes in and goes out. Even see children playing, running in and out of the water, building sandcastles, or dogs roaming free off the leash.

So what do you paint? You certainly really cannot beat the evening sunsets in all their glory or the early morning sunrises. Things do not come much better. Interesting too, is early spring with the little Snowdrops and fragile violets nodding their heads. At this time bulbs are pushing their way into the world and buds are forming on our bushes and hedgerows.

Easter brings little surprises, chicks and eggs. Moving on into May with a blaze of Bluebells peeping through our hedgerows, gardens and forests. Summer – something we have all been awaiting. Flowers and trees cheering us all on our way.

How these colorful floral displays cheer us up with their lovely displays of color. We love them all, delicate shades of pastels, but also the really strong dynamic colors hit us in the eye.

If you are still stuck for inspiration just look up at the clouds. All changing, moving lazily across the sky. Skies are fascinating with colors interchanging, period! Red skies herald a new day and we are in heaven.

Landscapes are so inspiring and never boring. That is why artist’s love doing them. You are never short of natures subjects, so come on, take your first steps and bite the bullet.
