Give Me One Good Reason To Buy Patio Cushions

by Michael James McCord

There are several good reasons to get cushions, we’ll cover them here. But first, you already know you either want or need them, that’s how you found this article. It’s a good thing too, you might even learn some more reasons why you should consider investing in some good patio cushions. So, do you need them or do you just want them? Or both? There are few arguments against getting cushions for your outdoor furniture and we will cover those too. For now, just remind your partner if they think you don’t need them about the most important factor of all, comfort.

Any way you go, a patio cushion is the way to be more comfortable on your outdoor furniture. Only someone who enjoys pain could argue otherwise. Metal patio furniture sets like wrought iron or wooden benches just don’t compare without cushions to ease your body’s pressure points. Brief periods of sitting on a hard surface are okay, but having to sit on it for an extended period while lounging or at a party is not anyone’s idea of fun.

The primary reason to have a cushioned chair is the comfort factor. Period. This is really the only reason most people are searching for patio cushions online. The fact is, there are other functions as well. Just think, you get new cushions only to think that you will be more comfortable and end up with these other benefits as well.

One of the peripheral reasons to have cushions is for their protective aspects. Having your cushions protect your patio furniture is a side benefit that should not be overlooked. It is a useful tool to convince the guy in your life too that you really need these cushions. This is even more true if you are discussing cushions for outdoor benches or chairs made of wood. While woods like redwood and cedar can age gracefully outdoors, they can still have their life extended by using cushions to at least partially cover them. In fact, even teak patio furniture will last longer by having cushions. Teak is well known for its durable properties outdoors, so the cushions are just icing on the cake. When exposed to the elements for any length of time, all wood will eventually deteriorate and splinter. Using patio cushions can help mitigate this problem. They will help to prolong the life of your wooden patio furniture, saving you the cost of having to replace your whole set before its time.

Another reason to cover your outdoor furniture is for fashion or decor purposes. After all, this is not only a decision of fashion vs. function. With decorative and protective outdoor cushions, you can have both. Never is this more true or important than with entertaining. The look and ambiance that a cushion provides on a piece of furniture is important. Imagine your indoor couch or chair with no seat cushion. You wouldn’t want to sit on that, would you? Of course not. Honestly, we don’t always break out the fine linen and china when dining alone or with the kids. But add in some company and an occasion and you have to step it up. You don’t want to see your guests wiggling and fussing around in their chairs all through dinner because you were either too cheap or simply forgot to buy cushions do you? On the other hand, this would be a great way to limit the amount of people wanting to come to the next one if word got out.

Yet another reason for owning outdoor cushions for your chairs, bench or swing is variety. You can get a different set and mix up your look very easily. It beats buying all new patio furniture every couple of years. Now that I think of it, if you have a bench, chairs and a swing, you can create even more variety by either covering them all if you don’t already or by mixing cushion patterns and styles. This will give you an interior designer look outside. There is a great variety of fabrics and patterns available. Every patio cushion should be within your wildest dreams. You should never be able to get bored with your patio set again. Sometimes, after looking at your same old stuff for a while, you just feel like going shopping. This is totally normal. Once you invest in a good patio furniture set, you should invest in a nice set of cushions as well, and save yourself a bundle on buying new furniture.

As we first discussed, a patio cushion can get a bit pricey depending upon the style. The thing is, this is one of those ‘it is expensive because it is worth it’ scenarios. If you are actually someone who likes spending their time out on their patio furniture lounging, then you really can’t get by without them. Just imagine sleeping on a bed with just the box spring. Doesn’t sound very inviting to me. Know that you will actually be saving yourself some future expense by getting good quality cushions. If you choose to get cheap patio cushions, you will likely end up having to get new ones. The thing is, replacement chair cushions can be difficult to get if you other set gets too old. This shouldn’t be a problem if you just continue buying cheap cushions because you will probably have to continue buying them each season as their life will be shorter than the more quality ones. Don’t just use price as a determinant of quality, do your research, you can find good quality inexpensive cushions as well.

The best reason to get patio furniture cushions is because you will have much more enjoyment in all of your outdoor pursuits where you require seating. Lounging by the pool, watching the kids run around out back, enjoying time with friends and family at your outdoor party, they are all made more comfortable and enjoyable by having a cushioned chair to sit on. You will not have to worry about where you are going to sit to get comfortable. No need to worry about how painful it will be. Consider your purchase of new patio cushions an investment in your family or recreation time. How can you put a price tag on that?
