Don’t Replace Your Kitchen Cabinets ” Update Them
Regardless of what you might think as you roam around your kitchen, the cabinet doors are actually an important accessory. But as with most things in life, the styles don’t last forever; neither does stain or paint. So when you finally realize that you’re out of style and need an update, you probably wont have the money to purchase new cabinets. But there are definitely a few ways to update your kitchen cabinet doors without spending a lot of money.
One of the easiest ways to update your cabinets is to just switch out your current door handles or knobs, which tend to quickly make cabinets look outdated or old. So you can replace them once in a while for just a few dollars, and they’ll definitely help you update your kitchen. And whats not to love about new hardware on your cabinet doors? Just make sure you replace your old knobs with new knobs, instead of trying to replace them with handles; or vice-versa.
As you’re looking for hardware for your cabinets, you might want to hit up the local flea market and bargain stores before you check out the big retailers. The hardware you find might be someones old hardware, but you should be able to clean them up to look as good as new. And most likely there’s nothing wrong with them. The previous owner just might not have liked them anymore. One mans just is another mans treasure, right?
You should also think about repainting or re-staining the doors, which is also a great way to update your cabinets. All you have to do is sand off the old paint or stain and apply a fresh coat. When you do the doors, however, don’t forget to do the fronts of the cabinets themselves so that they match. Obviously this option is going to take a bit more time and work, but the results that you’ll enjoy will be just as satisfying as buying completely new cabinets.
If you don’t really feel like spending the time and effort to re-stain or repaint, you could replace just the doors of the cabinets. You should be able to find new doors that match your existing paint or stain to replace the old ones with, which will give you a completely new, updated look. Since the overall look of your cabinets is mostly based on the doors themselves, by replacing just the kitchen doors you’ll be able to clean up and update your kitchen without spending a lot of money.
Updating an older kitchen can be much more expensive than any other room in your home, so don’t waste the money buying completely new cabinets when you can just as easily update them with a bit of time and effort on your part. You could even consider hiring a professional to build you just new doors for half the price or less than purchasing all new full cabinets. Besides, there’s probably nothing wrong with your current cabinets themselves, is there? So why replace whats not broken? Create a whole new kitchen for a whole lot less just by updating your current kitchen cabinet doors.
